Future Losses

Future Losses

This site is for people who have tried to control their gambling and found that it did not hold.

Most people who gamble are fine. They spend a bit of money on an evening out, lose it or win it, and never think about it again. Nothing here is aimed at them, and this is not a campaign against gambling.

There is a second group. For them, the problem is not the maths and never was. It is that the plan keeps failing: the limit that worked for three weeks, the account closed and reopened, the promise made in January and the one made again in March. If you have made rules for yourself about gambling and then broken them, that is the sorting line. Not how much you have lost, and not whether anything dramatic has happened yet.

If that is you, the target here is zero. Not cutting down, not being sensible about it. Zero, because for this group it is the only number that has ever held.

What this site actually is

Instructions. The dull, specific, surprisingly hard to assemble steps that put real distance between you and a bet: how to get yourself on your state's self-exclusion list, how to make your bank refuse gambling transactions, which blocking software covers what and which gaps it leaves, how to close an account for good rather than merely deactivating it, and how to stop the texts and the push notifications arriving at nine on a Friday night.

You already know the house wins. Being told again does not help, so this site does not do that. What it does is the paperwork with you.

Start here: the first hour

That page is a sequence you can finish in about an hour. It is the most useful thing on this site, because every step in it keeps working on the days when you do not feel like doing anything at all.

One thing about slipping

If you have a bet after a period of not betting, that is information, not a verdict. It tells you something about where the gap in your setup is. It does not mean the attempt failed and it does not mean starting again from nothing. The belief that one bet has ruined it is what turns one bet into three months.

How the facts here are kept

Every factual claim on this site carries the official page it came from and the date someone read it. Where we could not confirm something from the regulator, the bank or the operator itself, the page says so plainly and tells you who to ask, rather than filling the gap with a confident guess. On a page about whether you are protected, a wrong answer is worse than a missing one.

If you find something out of date, tell us and it gets fixed.
